The sector breakdown has a new frontrunner.
Retail and e-commerce account for two of the top three projects in new logistics construction for 2025.
These include:
- the new site for the Winkler Group, covering approximately 63,000 square metres, developed by Dietz AG in Langenau
- the built-to-suit project by Logad GmbH for the Swiss online retailer Galaxus, covering around 65,000 square metres in Neuchâtel
Despite the general decline in new construction, the retail sector can look to the future with optimism. For the coming years, the retail sector has around 1.3 million square metres of planned new construction space.
The expected drivers are the retail and wholesale sectors, as well as the e-commerce sector linked to the Asian retail industry.
The online retailer Amazon is planning several projects, including the new logistics centre in Könnern, in the Leipzig/Halle logistics region, covering approximately 52,000 square metres. Construction work on the project began in April 2026.
